The Phoenix Bioscience Cluster is a substantive and dense cluster of acute care hospitals, medical education facilities, and institutional research facilities that establish a dynamic platform for innovation in the delivery of patient care.
The cluster boasts more than 3,000 acute care beds in more than eight major hospitals, the new Phoenix campus of the University of Arizona Medical School and School of Pharmacy, and more than 1,000,000 SF of institutional and private research and development space.
The aggregation of intellectual capital and synergistic partners is impressive, and rapidly growing!
±30-acres of bioscience and education facilities with more than 6 million SF of biomedical-related research, academic, and clinical facilities.

The Phoenix bioscience cluster has broad, active participation from a wide array of bioscience, political, economic development, research, and philanthropic leaders. For the last decade, this dynamic group of leaders has moved forward an aggressive strategic plan, coined “Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap”. Their focus included dramatically increasing R&D funding, developing a critical mass of academic and private research institutions, recruiting top scientists, bolstering funding for early-stage bioscience firms, and developing a top bioscience workforce through expanded education in STEM areas — science, technology, engineering and math. The Arizona Bioscience Roadmap strategic plan for 2014-2025 is well underway. For details, visit The Flinn Foundation, or download Arizona's Bioscience Roadmap.
One of the fastest-growing bioscience states
Targets its bioscience strengths — cancer research, neurosciences, bioengineering, bio-agriculture, precision medicine, diagnostics and emerging areas
Hospitals active in research
Only state with a decade-long, active bioscience strategic plan, plus two customized regional plans
Strategic plan guided by a statewide steering committee with leaders from industry, academia and government
Third-party performance data released publicly demonstrating progress and gaps to be addressed
Known for its "collaborative gene" — ability for disparate institutions to work together
